In 1961 I embarked on an epic train ride across Europe, from
Moscow to Paris where I lived and discovered there was only
one Japanese restaurant. It became my dream to share
Japanese cuisine and culture with the world. From
Osaka Japan I travelled to Montreal, and my dream
became a life journey when Sakura restaurant
opened on Crescent street July 3rd 1973.
At the time, there were only three Japanese
restaurants in Montreal. My love of seafood
drove me to buy Desjardins Seafood
restaurant which I also owned from
1993 to 2005. Following three locations on de la Montagne street and Drummond street, Sakura moved to 1216 Stanley street (2nd floor) where we are celebrating our 50th anniversary July 3rd 2023!
